There is a fashion, among a certain sort of blob, for edges. For corners. For presenting oneself as something with a defined perimeter and a firm position.

I want to suggest, gently, that this is nonsense, and that it is exhausting all of us.

The tyranny of the straight line

We did not evolve edges. We evolved to settle. To find our level and sit in it. The blob who insists on corners is not stronger than the rest of us — merely tenser, and, in my observation, considerably less pleasant at dinner.
